Alicante is one of the most vibrant and fastest growing on the Spanish coast. Situated between the magnificent beaches with miles of sand and rocky mountain landscape, Alicante offers numerous tourist opportunities. Today, this ancient Mediterranean port is a unique combination of modern lifestyle and rich heritage. Take a holiday in Alicante, you will discover true Spanish flavor and enjoy the wonderful climate and friendly atmosphere.
Most visitors spend time on the beaches. And it’s a very good reason. The beaches are simply stunning Alicante – a perfect place for a meeting of the Mediterranean Sea. However, there are also many people who want to avoid the sun, and relax in the shade, away from the beaches in the south. If you are one of them, you’ll be surprised to see how many you can find beautiful parks in Alicante. Despite the hot and dry weather landscape, there are large green areas of the city. Alicante parks are quiet, away from the city center. You can find a place to rest, enjoy the Mediterranean vegetation and spend leisure time. On hot summer days, people gather, playing with children, walking their dogs, sitting in the shade of palm trees, reading a newspaper or enjoy a conversation.
The city green fascinating is not a park, but a walk along the harbor is great. Spain Esplanade walking is our favorite song, always full. It combines the old site of the University of Alicante, on the one hand and the Hotel Melia Postiguet beach on the other side. People usually approached from Rambla Avenue and the Old Town. You will encounter on the sidewalk creating a geometric mosaic pattern is repeated three colors mimic the waves. Along the promenade, there are several rows of palm trees that separate their ways and to create a good shadow. Among the many restaurants and pizzerias is the perfect place to dine. During the day you can cool the juice or ice cream, and maybe a snack at Subway and McDonald’s Turkish or Chinese. You can also watch shows and street performers or buy some local souvenirs in one of the cabins.
Next Canalejas Esplanade Park – the oldest city. Located near the port of Alicante, Alicante Canalejas park connects the city center with a race club and Panoramis complex, a place of rest and entertainment. On the front is an amusement park for children of the Roman city and other attractions. People often over Canalejas Park Avenida Doctor Gadea walking or Cairns. Park entrance is guarded by two pairs of interesting stone carvings – a dog and a lion. The park has some beautiful sculptures and fountains and rest in the shade of giant trees. Each year, in late February, Canalejas Park is full of young people celebrated Carnival night.
These two areas are much larger green parts of monuments – Castles of Alicante. Visit our castles can be contacted Alicante last millennium. Benacantil on top you can see the Castillo de Santa Barbara (Santa Barbara). This is the most important monument of the city, dominates the landscape of Alicante, with its great location. Race offers a breathtaking view of the bay of Alicante and fields. You can do a lot of large images to your collection. I prefer to get to the castle on foot through picturesque Barrio de Santa Cruz (Santa Cruz). This area is full of small houses, narrow streets and old white painted full of flowers. There are also two important religious monuments: Chapel of the Holy Cross and St. Rocco. When you reach the hill, introduce permanent park, which gradually increases to the city. At the entrance to the water park is the Museum of Alicante. Walking the driveway, with a terrace to enjoy breathtaking views of the city and harbor. On sunny days, you can easily see Tabarca small island south coastal town of Santa Pola. If you want to relax, there is a nice restaurant with a beautiful view of the skyline of the old town and modern living in a harmonious relationship with the surrounding nature.
Another castle in Alicante Castillo de San Fernando. Today the castle is a tourist attraction and a place to rest. It is less and less – very easy walk. Since it is located in central Alicante, you can go there when you need a break (note that raising the largest castle of Santa Barbara is a challenge). Castillo de San Fernando is located next to the Renfe train station and Avenue Maisonnave. You can reach the place of stars beautiful circular (square Estels), go north along the Avenida General Marva. Upstairs, first see Instituto de Jorge Juan. Behind him, there are other educational institutions such as College Orphan Rail. On the east side, is a monument to the heroes of the Spanish War of Independence against Napoleon. Nearby is the main fortifications consist of Lions Gate. On the walls, you can relax in a peaceful park Toss Hill. Meet with families, children, people walking their dogs or many jogging. If you want to be in good shape, try outdoor fitness. For lovers of photography – from castle has a magnificent view of the largest castle Santa Barbara.
One exit south of Alicante, is the Palm. This incredible park is situated between Alicante port and beach Urbanova usually traveling by car (well, I was there on my bike). It has hundreds of palm trees and other exotic plants, waterfalls, ponds and bridges of wooden boats. Palm is a favorite picnic area where families enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and many facilities for children. In the summer there are regular family events such as puppet shows in the room.
And that’s not all. There are many great parks, but usually not frequented by tourists. One of them is the Garden Quijano Pantheon. Children in Spain, bullfighting near Plaza de Toros. On the other side of the park, there are several bus stops. You have a lot of people in front of her, waiting for the bus, but none of them come close to the park. Please do not go – please visit the monument pleasant. Another interesting park Min Park Morant. It is the largest green area of Alicante, which is seen as a unique park. Located in the north of the city, near the outskirts of Ciudad Jardin Remedy Virgo cluster. This is my favorite – it’s because he lives nearby. I go there at night to run or walk with my dog. Always full of people who live in the surrounding streets – a family having a picnic, young people who play football or basketball, walking senior. However, as Morant Park is located near the city center is not likely to go there. Finally, one of the best planned and maintained Alicante is on the green. If you are an international student participating in Socrates-Erasmus student, you may be surprised. Describing the University of Alicante has a long article again. With a large park, contemporary architecture, libraries, conference rooms, sports facilities and museums, our University is the most impressive monument of modern life in Alicante.

Christmas in New York, chestnuts roasting on an open park
If you are a music fan “Auntie Mame”, like me, you remember that song on the show entitled “We need a little Christmas now.” Poor Auntie Mame (Roz Russell will always be for me, despite the fact that he was not musical version) fell on luck. Money is gone, and he had nothing but his beloved nephew and relentless spirit to see it through. You know how long Aunt Mame for many today, but we need a little Christmas. Right now. And nobody knows how to do Christmas like New York.
This article will get people worlds away from the “Big Apple”, and some in the ear. Wherever you are, I hope you all at some point in their lives will experience Christmas in New York. This wonderful season starts in late November and lasts until Jan. 10.
I lived in Manhattan for about 23 years, and all New York Christmas precious memories creates a network that continues to attract very tender. Since moving to the suburbs, the time allowed me to enter the city during the holidays, and I miss. Very! Regardless of what they say about a classic “Courier and Ives” New England Christmas, there is nothing in the world as energetic and joyful Christmas 90 miles south of my current digs.
Ahhhhhh … Christmas in New York.
If you are lucky enough to visit this year, here is a list of my favorite resident “do not miss” places and events. You can check the Internet for specific information.
The season started at the legendary Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade, which drew crowds for decades. Therefore, in all my years of living there, I avoided the parade. Not once attended. It’s like New Year’s Eve in Times Square. Or are you a person or group who is not. Are behind the group. But T-day parade is symbolic. This is the beginning. However, it’s more fun (at least for me) to enjoy on TV, where crowds freezing and worsen du jour.
In early December, a tree lighting ceremony at Rockefeller Center. Another shot of the crowd, no doubt, but one that came out. It’s fun to be there at least once. Evergreen tree is selected from the many beautiful women competing in honor of New York and neighboring states. Only a few years ago, majestic fir Connecticut received the green light, and made us very proud. It’s Christmas in New York, regardless of the number of unique light tree at Rockefeller Center. Tree is always majestic, jaw-droopingly beautiful, shiny diva holding court at the ice rink at Rockefeller Center, in the heart of all the Christmas in New York. Players of all ages to get their “Table 8″ below and hour walking spectators, fascinated by the beauty and joy of all. This tree is always magic in its properties to improve mood. You want to stop several times before the season ends. While in the area, across the street to enjoy Saks Fifth Avenue holiday windows. They are usually festive and fun – not as spectacular as his Lord and Taylor, but you can see these beauties tomorrow.
The first snowflakes fall in operating Rockettes Christmas Latest show at Radio City Music Hall, just steps from Grand Tree. Rockettes generation made history on the stage of Radio City, playing with precision, studying, smiling Rockette smile. As always, the annual program is a bit cheesy, a bit tacky, and absolutely wonderful. It is a Christmas tradition in New York at its best. Years ago, Radio City used to include films show on stage. Demand for tickets was so great that the show started at 6:00 pm. 6:00! This concept really appeals to me. A year, even at 4:00 in the morning, we went to our favorite restaurant, at night on a big breakfast, and then went to the Music Hall theater during the first commitment rule. It was full, all act as if it was natural that in the theater of live events dawn. We sat vulgar scene shows seeing the Rockettes do their high kicks, Santa Claus was, HO-HO-HO-ing like 8 at night. Then I saw Albert Finney in the (then new) musical version of “Scrooge”. I left the theater at 10:30, with a full day. Surreal experience full of joy and memories that I cherish to this day.
Christmas in New York is complete without a horse and carriage ride through Central Park. Carriage rides in New York City has always been exorbitant price. I imagine that now are astronomical. Is there any negotiating with the drivers in terms of price? I guess so. In any case, it does not hurt to try. Unless it rains, do not miss this fun style of attack, horse and buggy in Central Park. If there is no snow, it’s even more fun. Make sure that nails down the length of the race, along with the price. Leave nothing to chance.
I hope you’re wearing the best, warmest, most comfortable shoes. If so,
horse and rider must leave the zoo in Central Park Carousel, Wollman Rink or if you can watch the skaters, and even walk on the same path. I think this holiday skate there, just as there are in the skating rink in Rockefeller Center. Traditional ritual of Christmas in New York, is a pleasant aroma of roasted chestnuts. Make sure to buy some hot roasted chestnuts and a pretzel from a street vendor soft in New York. Nothing tastes as good as cold days of December.
Speaking of food, while walking in the park (east or west of Manhattan) to be cold and hungry, and they deserve to enjoy a delicious lunch at one of hundreds of excellent restaurants await parts of the park. If you happen to leave the east can try their luck to get Serendipity 60 East Street, east of Third Avenue. It’s a tradition, a single hole, wall classic, familiar menu and clientele. Will have to wait in line to enter, you can call is in order.
On the second day, skipping the party window is first on the agenda. Remember, shopping on Fifth Avenue gift is an important part of celebrating the Christmas season in New York. This can strain your wallet and weighs about bags however. What’s more, most of us do our shopping today, and most stores will have their own view shopping sites. So relax and just be a spectator hands. Start at Macy’s at 34 and Broadway. Macy is a “must” to visit residents and visitors celebrate Christmas in New York .. Log in to provide the list of Santa Claus. Tell him how good you are. He already knows the truth. So, whatever it is, it’s too late and you can not fool Santa Claus. Leaving Macy, walk one block east of Fifth Avenue, on the left, and go four blocks north, at Lord & Taylor, to find where Windows is installed famous holiday. They are always worth a visit. There will probably be a line but it moves quickly, deserves a closer look to see the amazing display hindering people of all ages to come back year after year. If your feet are kept, go 10 blocks uptown to check screens Saks Fifth Avenue. So if you are so inclined, cross the street and visit Bethlehem at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. Spend some time in this beautiful quiet in March, during the rest of their piglets. You can even a little prayer for world peace. Leaving San Patricio, take the opportunity for a second look to refined tree in Rockefeller Center, which is across the street.
There are many interesting shops on Fifth Avenue. Agitation and only people watching is fun festive. Bergdorf Goodman, Tiffany and many other great shops await you in the vicinity of 57 – street. Lunch will be no problem in this neck of the woods. There are many high-end “Chi-Chi”, restaurants and lots of price sensitive. You will eat well in both cases.
If ballet is your thing, try to see the Nutcracker at Lincoln Center. Matinee performances are usually on specific days and at night. Handel’s Messiah or take in one of the many fine cathedrals village. If you have not had a live performance of “Messiah” at the Cathedral are in treatment.
Short walks in Humboldt Redwoods State Park
This year, visit the impressive and magnificent wood Humboldt Park, which offers the largest remaining stand of ancient redwoods in the world – over 17,000 hectares. It is also home to some of the oldest recorded Coastal Redwood trees, some of which are over 2,200 years.
I bet you did not know that an acre Humboldt Redwoods State Park was found to contain a higher density of organic matter contained in the Amazon jungle – The Humboldt Redwoods Interpretive Association and others – in fact, seven times.
The park is located 45 miles south of Eureka, California, 20 miles north of Garberville, and may be available in each direction from the Avenue of the Giants some impressive scenic stretches from the Gulf of St. Francisco California, Redwood National Park.
For more than 30 km, Avenue of the Giants passes 51,222 hectares of softwood forest remaining in Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
Years softwood log
But remember – Avenue of the Giants, you will see not only well protected redwoods big and dangerous, but also a number of private land, which was saved from logging. The contrast between small and large trees growing second park of ancient redwoods is moving.
Many of the old growth redwoods were cut during the gold rush and later, as many Americans west. In fact, nearly 95% of virgin redwoods covered the west coast of southern Oregon to San Luis Obispo almost disappeared.
These days, there is a strong movement to significantly reduce Brazil prohibits cutting wood and one of the few remaining mature redwoods not in parks or reserves. As you read this, environmentalists probably lived in trees to prevent unwarranted remaining rainforest red to be cut.
Yes, today, only 5% of the original forests remain Redwood, who is one of the reasons you see redwoods Humboldt Redwoods State Park so special.
Swimming, hiking, canoeing, camping and more
In addition to the impressive coastline Redwood ancient forests, the park has over 100 miles of trails for hiking, fishing, swimming and boating on the River Eels, Cycling, seasonal interpretive programs, including Nature Walk and discussions led by a park naturalist variety of topics such as forest ecology and animal tracking.
Instead of booking a hotel near the Avenue of the Giants, camping, generally well in this area, from early May to October. The park offers camping environment developed areas, golf courses and equestrian trails. Temperatures are mild heavy rain is unlikely, and you find some mistakes. Will be among those great trees.
A walk in the park can be long and difficult, short and easy, as you prefer. Here are my favorite songs from Avenue of Giants, each lasting an hour or less, and offer gentle slopes:
* Drury-Chaney Trail
* Founders Grove Loop Trail
* Rockefeller Forest Loop Trail
* Area of large trees with large trees, giant trees and tree trails Iron
You can pick up maps at the Visitor Center, which is open every day of the year. See also the website at Humboldt Redwoods State Park, maps and directions about online.
Drury-Chaney Trail – my favorite
If you have time for a unique feature in each red park, hiking Drury-Chaney. This is one of the most beautiful trails in the park, a walk in space and time, in all weather conditions.
You can walk as straight or circular path, and each path is clear.
Do not be fooled by the sign to discuss other forest near the park. These large trees is that time is recorded forest. Rather, it is part of growing up virgin, most beautiful and majestic in Humboldt Redwoods State Park.
Unlike many redwood groves, where trees block the light promotes lush vegetation, land cover dynamics Drury that particularly beautiful region.
A few years ago, the Rangers finished all trucks Drury-Chaney Trail. In winter, a heavy rain can create multiple canyons and a branch or two might fall, but usually people with powerful weapons reasonably able to smooth the path of good.
Founders Grove Loop Trail
In this way, the names of the founders Save the Redwoods League, sometimes crowded, but always enjoyable. Founders Grove is an area of very large trees, including founder’s tree, which is about 346 centimeters tall and aged between 1300 and 1500.
You will find that Humboldt Redwoods coastal redwoods State Park, as the founder of Grove, grow at lower altitudes along rivers and streams, including Eel River South Fork.
This loop trail, called also founders Grove Nature Trail, you can easily reach in less than 30 minutes.
Rockefeller Forest Loop Trail
Mountain Bike Loop Rockefeller Forest, the largest forest in Humboldt Redwoods State Park, was named after John D. Rockefeller, Jr., who donated $ 1 million to preserve 10,000 acres of trees in 1927 Brazil wood on site .
Very slowly – and the federal government even more slowly – in order to protect these magnificent trees. Over the years, the park developed mainly from grants and other clubs, families, groups and small garden protection, and not through public procurement. So thank Rockefeller and other great philanthropists who helped preserve our natural heritage.
Rockefeller Loop Trail is not well marked, like the others, so stay on the main routes taken. But he knows he can not go too far down the road, as the circuit is limited by the Eel River, Bull Creek Road and Matto.
Large trees on paths
With regard to large trees, has 10-3 minute walk three magnificent trees.
* Rockefeller tree forest high – Waist: 42 meters Height: 359 meters, measured in 1957.
* Tree giant – Waist: 53 meters Height: 363 meters, called “Champion Coast Redwood” in 1991.
* Iron Giant fallen tree – diameter in one direction: 7.5 m in diameter, in the other direction: 17.5 meters, dropped in January 1995.
But statistics can not capture what makes the Humboldt Redwoods Redwoods State Park so impressive. The combination of size and age evoke a sense of dignity and quiet – almost wisdom – I wonder if you can not find anywhere else. (My mother called these areas the cathedral.)
Moore Park Toronto – Cartier presentation
